Magazine

The magazine that i have chosen to analyse is an edition of SFX Magazine, which specialises in movie news and science-fiction. The masthead of the magazine reads "SFX" in big, shiny letters to represent the new and exciting topics mentioned in the magazine. It is done in a specially designed typeface to be instantly recognisable to anyone picking up the magazine and know that they specialise on the latest movie news.

The cover lines on the magazine include "Interviewed!: Milla Jovovich Talks Resident Evil: Retribution" and "Plus: Massive 2013 Film Preview!". These are distributed around the main image, without detracting from it too much. These headings are exciting to the reader as they give just enough information to make you want to open the magazine without giving too much away.

The main images used is placed in the middle of the cover and is of Robert Downey, Jr. This is because he is well known for playing superhero Iron Man, and the image of him relates to the main cover line which is "The Avengers 2". This will get people's attention before anything else does as it is right in the middle of the page and used in a classic way. Also he is making eye contact with the reader which is more likely to draw their attention. Anybody that is a fan of Iron Man or superheroes will instantly want to know what the new movie is because it feature one of their favourite superheroes. He also has his arm out which suggest action and gets the audience excited for read on.

The main cover line of the magazine is "The Avengers 2". This is the first thing that catches your attention after the image as it is written in the biggest font apart from the masthead. It is also a major component of the success of the magazine as it is one of the main factors that makes the reader want to pick up the magazine. Fans of superheroes will also be aware of the first Avengers movie so will be interested in the sequel.

The target audience for this magazine is mainly for males, however can still be read by girls as superheroes and science-fiction is very popular to both genders. The age of most readers would be 16-30 as this is the main age group to watch superhero movies. Any older and i don't think that people would want to buy the magazine as there is no cover line on the magazine to grab their attention. Even if people, especially girls, don't like superheroes then they might but it because of the heading relating to "Resident Evil". I would think that most readers would be in the 'C 1 and 2' group and some in the 'B' group because this is not a very expensive or psophisticated due to the layout and theme of the magazine. People in the 'A' group would read something more expensive such as GQ Magazine, while some from 'B' would read it because they might have an interest in superheroes, despite their profession.
